Bloxham Broadsheet

Life in an Oxfordshire Village

Childhood Ambitions.

The cashier at the fish-shop sat in a glass cage,
Entering accounts on each thick ledger page.
She must have been using her very best writing
On those coloured edged pages – how exciting!
To use such a ledger, that wish was mine.
My aims were quite low when I was nine.

Then later, another secret desire
Was to cut a whole cheese into blocks with a wire.
My youthful ambitions re ledger and cheese
I am pleased to tell you, were both achieved.
Brenda Kirkham

What strange ambitions and desires did you harbour when you were a child and did you achieve any of them?
We would love to know –
the funnier the better!
