Blandford Fly in Bloxham – July 2017

Beware the Blandford Fly in Bloxham?
I am prety sure I was bitten by a “Blandford Fly” towards the end of May whilst gardening, resulting in a very swollen, painful, itchy and hot upper arm.

I took antihistamine tablets which helped but it was very uncomfortable for several days.

Our garden backs onto the Goggs and the slow moving Sor Brook which may be where the larvae were. The fly was named after Blandford in Dorset wherre it was first seen, but it is known to have spread to Oxfordshire, East Anglia and Herefordshire.
