E. Street was commissioned as architect to oversee the restoration of the building. This included repairing roofs, removing plaster from the walls, restoration of the aisles and tiling of the floor. The seating was rearranged and a west gallery removed. In 1870 gas replaced the old oil lamps and apart from electric light and a new vestry, the church is basically that left by Street and Hodgson.<\/p>\n<p>Given refurbishment of the church had become necessary by the Victorian age, Bloxham was fortunate to have its church restored by Street as he was seen to have, \u201ca true artist\u2019s respect for the precious remains of the art of our forefathers\u201d\u201d Illustrated London News\u00a0(9 June 1866).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-53218\" src=\"https:\/\/bloxham.info\/broadsheet\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/BOF-Logo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"88\" height=\"115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bloxham.info\/broadsheet\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/BOF-Logo-1.jpg 88w, https:\/\/bloxham.info\/broadsheet\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/BOF-Logo-1-42x55.jpg 42w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 88px) 100vw, 88px\" \/>This series is brought to you by the BOF Heritage Group.
