\u201cAn English Christmas\u201d <\/strong>\u2013 An evening of festive music<\/h2>\n

Saturday 16th<\/sup> December 2023, at 7.30pm, Bloxham Church<\/h3>\n

Cherwell Choral Society will be offering an evening of festive music this year, in the beautiful St Mary\u2019s Church in Bloxham.<\/p>\n

The music will include Gerald Finzi\u2019s \u201cIn Terra Pax\u201d.\u00a0 The piece, which was written in 1954 for choir and two soloists, is a setting of two verses from Robert Bridges\u2019 poem \u201cNoel: Christmas Eve 1913\u201d.\u00a0 It was apparently inspired by Finzi hearing the sound of the midnight bells ringing out across the frosty Gloucestershire valleys.<\/p>\n

The choir will also perform a selection of traditional English carols, and the two soloists will be offering some extra pieces of their own.\u00a0 \u00a0The musical director will be Dr Paul Hedley, and the choir will be accompanied by the Adderbury Ensemble.<\/p>\n

Do come along \u2013 it promises to be an evening of lovely Christmas music.<\/p>\n
