Update Courtington Lane\/ Workhouse Lane Flooding Issues<\/p>\n
The notes below are the key outputs and decisions from a meeting held at the end of July between:<\/p>\n
The key items identified that affect the drainage at this junction are:-<\/p>\n
There are 2 x 375 mm drains that extend from the bottom of the playing field into a drain on Courtington lane.<\/p>\n
This is serviced in turn by one 300mm and a 200mm pipe.<\/p>\n
They then go into a 300mm box gully, under a stone wall and into a 150mm pipe which runs under the school car park to the main drain flow in Bloxham High Street, which is 225mm.<\/p>\n
It was noted that the School had already done an amount of work to try to improve surface water flow on their fields. Now it was felt that further actions to increase the capacity of the gullies on the playing fields (East to West and North to South) including more and higher baffles would be a helpful and a relatively easy fix, with the final scheme subject to a survey and some modelling by OCCs consultants in conjunction with the school. This work would be undertaken by Bloxham School. The target timing for this work is during the School mid-term break, autumn 2025.<\/p>\n
The main issue of the drain size and capacity also needed to be reviewed by OCCs consultant, it was felt the solution would be to increase the existing 150mm pipe running under the school carpark to potentially a 400 or 450 diameter pipe but to control the flow with a Penstock adjustable flow gate. This would be required because the High Street drain is only 225mm. Without this control there would be risk of causing additional issues in the High Street.<\/p>\n
This is a much larger project 5-7 weeks potentially and it was felt that the process could extend into mid 2026 due to the scale and scope of the work as well as ensuring the costing Plan of Work funding was in place along with agreeing the legal obligations between OCC and the school. Due to the nature, extent and location of the work this would need to be carried out during non-term time. Hence Summer holidays 2026 as a target timing, but to be confirmed. The Project Management would be with OCC.<\/p>\n
There then remains a longer term project to upgrade the High Street drainage. As fixing this issue was a requirement in the section 19 report OCC would likely have the funds to do this in conjunction with highways. Timing -to be advised<\/p>\n
