on a variety of historical topics\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Bring your popcorn for another History Club film night! Following the\u00a0 successful formula of our Film Night last year this will be an evening of\u00a0 interest and variety sure to generate memories and discussion \u2013 something for everyone!<\/p>\n

A remarkable short film from 1938 will examine the build-up at the time of France\u2019s defences against the German threat, including extraordinary\u00a0 footage of the Maginot Line and its staggering underground complex,\u00a0 built to accommodate one million personnel.<\/p>\n

Tapping into the current controversy around accelerated housebuilding we\u2019ll go back to look at the rationale and early-years\u2019 experience of the\u00a0 New Towns: Harlow in 1956 and Milton Keynes in 1968.<\/p>\n

And finally, we\u2019ll see an engaging short film about the hair-raising and\u00a0 perilous conditions for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians on the roads of\u00a0 Oxford in 1953, which might cause you to (favourably) reassess\u00a0 road-user behaviour now!<\/p>\n
