Provisional School KS4 Results – 2016

Key Stage 4 is normally Years 10 and 11: the time leading up to GCSE Exams.
Back in the summer we didn’t publish much about GCSE results because schools tended to “cherry-pick” the information they published to suit their own ends – however the provisional KS4 data is now on the gov.uk website. (The very final results are normally published in January.)
Many parents will be unfamiliar with the measures used by the government and so it’s important you read through the explanations below properly đŸ™‚

  • Maths & English: The percentage of pupils achieving a grade C or better in English and maths GCSEs.
  • Attainment 8 score: Schools get a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to 8 qualifications, which include English, maths, 3 qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and 3 other additional approved qualifications. This was set in place to encourage schools to offer a wide curriculum for the majority of pupils.
  • Progress 8 score: – this is a measure (usually between +1 and -1) that tells us how well pupils at this school have progressed between the end of primary school (key stage 2) and the end of secondary school (key stage 4.) I.e. What value a secondary school is adding. All of the local schools had similar scores placing them near the national average for pupil progress (0)
  • The English Baccalaureate: Please Note The English Bacc will give way to the Attainment 8 score in the January 2017 school performance tables as the key attainment measure by which schools will be held accountable. A pupil is considered to have ‘achieved’ the English Baccalaureate if they got a grade C or better in the following subjects: English, maths, sciences, a language and either history or geography.
  • Ofsted Grades: Nationally these range from grade 1 (outstanding) to 4 (inadequate) but what is expected for each grade has changed dramatically over recent years to the extent that they only make sense if you understand the detail of these changes. As some local schools have been examined recently whilst others not since 2011 we have decided to omit Ofsted grade information.
