May bank holiday weekend, 52 members of 1st Bloxham Scout Group travelled to Thame show ground to take part in “Zodiac Camp 09”.
This was a camp organised and run by Oxfordshire Scouting for all Scout members from the county. There was just over 3000 campers for the weekend on site. The theme of the camp was the signs of the chinese zodiac, as this year is the year of the Ox. Scouting members from Banbury District were tigers and on Friday evening we had a carnival parade where we dressed up in bright orange t-shirts and tiger masks, and carried our large chinese dragon tiger!
The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers all enjoyed the vast range of actitivies on offer during the weekend. Abseiling, climbing, quad bikes, laser quest, Wii challenge, bungee trampolining, woggle wall, crafts, drumming, fairground rides and shows in the arena to name a few!
The evening’s entertainment was held in a huge circus tent and was awesome!
We all enjoyed the magician from Las Vegas, our own version of “Britain’s got Talent”, a comedian and the tribute bands of Robbie Williams and Girls Aloud.
During Saturday Peter Duncan visited the camp as his last official event as the Chief Scout. On Monday camp came to an end and after the closing ceremony it was time for all the very tired young people and leaders to go home. Parents saw from the photos of the camp what a fantastic time their children had had!
September is already booked up with adventures for the members of 1st Bloxham Scout Group.
