Few topics related to Bloxham’s history are as laden with mystery and myth as Bloxham’s underground tunnels. There is a short section in Yvonne Huntriss’s book “The Town of Bloxham” about them but information is sketchy. The recently formed Bloxham Underground Tunnels Society is trying to find some answers as to locations, age and origins, and purpose(s). They have organised a team, funding and expert assistance, and are engaged in investigations and starting to piece a story together. Come and hear about their journey and what’s known about this fascinating, largely hidden aspect of the village’s past. This will be a great opportunity to join the audience to share any knowledge and theories you may have – perhaps you have a tunnel under your house or street!
Refreshments provided (from 7.15pm). Admission: free for members (£13 annual sub); £3 visitor charge.

I would really like to contact the Bloxham Underground Tunnels Society. In the late 1950s I lived at Ashwell House, Stonehill, Bloxham and I was always intrigued by what seemed to be the beginning of a tunnel running off the cellar. Whilst it’s now over 70 years since I lived in Bloxham, I would love to know more about these tunnels and, in particular, whether anyone has investigated the Ashwell House one. I left England in early 1970.
