Today the for Road Safety Foundation (RSF) published its 2015 report page 8 of which lists roads that present a persistently higher risk to users based on data collected from 2008 – 2013.
They note that single carriageway A-roads now carry 8 times the risk of motorway.
Bloxham residents will be unsurprised to hear that the A361 Chipping Norton to Banbury features as the eighth most dangerous stetch of road in the country.
It qualifies for this position because of the frequency of fatal or serious accidents. (EuroRAP Risk Rating based on the number of fatal and serious crashes per billion vehicle km travelled)
Some 46% of accidents on this stretch of road involved cyclists or pedestrians and another 17% were motorcyclists. Little wonder that the SUSTRANS report recently commissioned for the Bloxham Neighbourhood Plan concluded, in direct contrast to the “expert reports” commissioned by developers, that it is not safe to cycle between Bloxham and Banbury!
The RSF also notes that their report is rich in data and offers local authorities the opportunity to direct their budgets in the most effective way to reduce road crashes in their area.
Certainly the dangers of this road were made very clear to Councillor Hudspeth when he attended the Banbury session of Oxfordshire Transport Plan consultations in Banbury. Maybe Oxfordshire C.C. will take proper account of this in the Oxfordshire County Council Local Transport Plan LTP3 – but I wouldn’t stake your pension on it!

Can you please give the information about the accident at the Playing fields on the A361 last night 10/08/2016 as helicopter landed and much noise plus Blue’s & Two’s and recovery trucks etc for an age last night. This was inside the 30MPH area of the village.
