Stephen Goss:
“The Secret History: Oxfordshire and the Cold War”
21 January 2026 @ Jubillee Park Hall

This talk looks at the part played by Oxfordshire in the UK’s response to the Cold War, including significant local sites (military installations, secret bunkers etc).
It addresses the period from 1945 to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Dr Stephen Goss covers how the international conflict played out at local level: for example, which towns or cities were on the Soviet target list, and where did local places feature in the Government’s plans for a possible post-apocalyptic Britain.
Dr Stephen Goss is a professional historian who has been a lecturer at Queen’s University, Belfast. His specialism is the Cold War. He is known for his engaging, witty and insightful presenting style.
