There was a large turnout of members in January to hear Ann Cole give a fascinating talk about the problems of travelling around the country in Anglo-Saxon times, a talk full of detail and well illustrated with her own photographs.
This month we have a complete contrast, with a talk entitled ‘High Society at Astrop Spa’, to be given on Wednesday, 18th March by Deborah Hayter. Many people know about watering places such as Leamington Spa and Cheltenham Spa but have not heard about the many small spas dotted around the country in the 18th and 19th centuries. Not only did the visitors take the waters for their health, they enjoyed the many entertainments on offer. Come along to the Jubilee Park Hall at 8.00p.m. to hear all about it. The evening will end with refreshments. Visitors are very welcome, entry £2.50. For more details contact the Chairman, Alan Donaldson.
