The next meeting will be on 21 January 2009 when Ann Cole, who is an expert on this subject, will talk about Place Names for the Anglo-Saxon Traveller. Illiterate and mapless – how did the people of Anglo -Saxon England find their way on long journeys? Are there still clues for us in the place names they chose? Slides will illustrate some of the names and features that we can go and look at for ourselves.
October’s talk was a hilarious account by Bill Davies of his time in the Royal Navy, with some historical background and interesting photos. November is of course the AGM and this year the speaker was Tony Bovis, a local expert on Blox-ham’s water supply. As there will be no meeting in December I take this opportunity to wish all members and readers a Happy Christmas and a (hopefully) Prosperous New Year. All meetings take place on the third Wednesday of the month in the Jubilee Park Hall at 8.pm. followed by tea and coffee. Visitors are very welcome.
