Members from 5 local WIs met in September at Banbury RUFC for an afternoon of climate conversations under the title of “Ask a Capable Woman” (Margaret Thatcher).

We were challenged to think about our Climate Capability eg understanding the implications of our everyday choices and our methods of transport, particularly on our holidays eg trains are top of the league with the least CO2 emissions whilst planes are bottom of the league.

Group discussions saw us sharing our ideas on food and shopping, energy in the home and transport and citizenship and influence.

We left the afternoon with much food for thought and ideas to share and put into practice.

This type of activity is only one of the many open to members of the WI. Our monthly meetings cover a wide range of topics; last month we heard from knitwear designer, Anna Wheeler, about her progress from student, through designer for fashion houses, to setting up her own knitwear business. In November we will have a talk on the charity Mercy Ships, followed in December by a fun, Christmas themed evening.

We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Jubilee Park Hall. Visitors are welcome.
