Were you aware that Bloxham Women’s Institute is one of the largest and most active in the area, with women from Banbury and the surrounding villages as well as residents of Bloxham being members? As well as regular speakers such as Mr Jones speaking on Nepal is month and Barbara Minter speaking on the Best Job in the World in April, groups of members get together for a whole variety of activities. In February a group went ten-pin bowling and another attended a meeting to discuss and vote on the political objectives of the W.I. in the coming year. Over the last few years, members from Bloxham W.I. have helped influence the large supermarkets’ stance on packaging and making the recycling of batteries easier.
There are groups who get together to enjoy good food at local venues and others who have been to W.I. organised lectures on Oxfordshire stately homes and the families connected with them. Several members have taken advantage of courses at the W.I College at Denman and other members have started their own slimmers support group.
New members and new ideas are always welcome at Bloxham W.I. although you might have an uphill task starting a jam-making group! So why not come and sample the next members meeting on 9th April at 7.30pm at Jubilee Park Hall or any second Wednesday of the month.
