Every year The Daily Telegraph organises a Junior Golf Championship, the finals to be played in Dubai with the qualifying rounds played all over the UK. There are 12 boys in the final and nine girls. Bloxham has two participants in the finals from the same family, namely 18 year old Katherine O’Connor in the girls’ competition and her 15 year old brother Steven in the boys.
We believe this to be a unique occurrence and a quite magnificent achievement. Katherine has also become the first female to win a scholarship to an elite golf school, at the Celtic Manor Golf Club the home for the 2010 Ryder Cup in Newport, Gwent. Katherine is studying for a degree in Sports Coaching at The University of Wales, Newport and believes the scholarship will complement her studies. She has already represented Wales in both adult and junior teams. We wish them both well and look forward to reporting the results of the competition in Dubai.
