CAROLE JEAN VINCENT
2nd February 1943 – 18th January 2018
It was no surprise that the Methodist Church in Marlborough Rd was standing room only for the service to remember the life of Carole, as she had
touched the lives of so many people, in so many different areas: sport (hockey in particular), science, nature, Women’s Institute, U3A, volunteering with Katharine House and the Theatre at Chipping Norton, not to mention lace making and a long-term stint with the Broadsheet, where her work on the advertisement section kept the finances in good shape for so many years.

Born during the war in Epping Forest area, she and her mother were evacuated to Cheshire, where a short time at nursery school came to an end when she refused her mashed potato, slapped her teacher and was asked not to come back! A later period of primary school in Sutton Coldfield developed an interest in calligraphy, and a life-long love of nature.

A degree in maths and physics at Reading University led to work with ICL as a computer programmer, but before that she spent a year volunteering as a teacher in Swaziland and in l969 married Alan whom she had met at university.

They moved to Bloxham in l964 with children Philip and Jane, where Carole joined the WI. She baked for the Market for many years, as well as acting as Treasurer.

Carole was invited to join the Broadsheet committee as Advertising Manager, where her computing skills were put to good use for 30 years until her illness forced her to step back, but she made sure that everything was in perfect order for her replacement.

The Broadsheet team will much miss Carole’s friendly and efficient presence, as will so many of her friends in her spheres of interest.
