“An English Christmas” – An evening of festive music

Saturday 16^th December 2023, at 7.30pm, Bloxham Church

Cherwell Choral Society will be offering an evening of festive music this year, in the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Bloxham.

The music will include Gerald Finzi’s “In Terra Pax”.  The piece, which was written in 1954 for choir and two soloists, is a setting of two verses from Robert Bridges’ poem “Noel: Christmas Eve 1913”.  It was apparently inspired by Finzi hearing the sound of the midnight bells ringing out across the frosty Gloucestershire valleys.

The choir will also perform a selection of traditional English carols, and the two soloists will be offering some extra pieces of their own.   The musical director will be Dr Paul Hedley, and the choir will be accompanied by the Adderbury Ensemble.

Do come along – it promises to be an evening of lovely Christmas music.
