Edna and family moved to Bloxham in l963, living in Courtington Lane and over the last half century made themselves very much part of the village and church communities. Her many friends joined Ray and family in remembering her at a ceremony at St Mary’s on November 13th.

Edna started life in Birmingham, among a large and extended family, but during the war found herself moved out as an evacuee, though she was fortunate in finding happy placements with families with whom she remained in touch, even spending part of her honeymoon at the home of one couple.
She and Ray both attended the same school, and met up again through church youth groups – Ray was in the Royal Signals for his National Service and then joined Birds Food (later to become General Foods and move to Banbury), so Bloxham was an obvious choice for a village close to work.

Edna took a full part in many church and village activities: Young Wives, Mother’s Union, helping to run the Bazaar, member of the Flower Club (winning the Rose Bowl), swimming monitor during the holidays at Bloxham School, part-time assistant at Homecraft. Edna was a founder member of the Warriner Choir, and was a constant attender, so much so that ‘her’ choir gave a rendition of Faure’s ‘In Paradisum’ to bring the funeral service to a close in a very beautiful and solemn way.

Outspoken and direct in manner, Edna was a very caring person and her pastoral gifts meant that she kept an eye on people she felt needed help or company, so that she will be much missed not just by her family, but many in her circle of friends and acquaintances.
