Bloxham School Choir sing at Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.
I had a tremendously moving experience during Holy week. Thanks to the Headmaster of Bloxham School, I went to Belgium to the Menin Gate to attend the Last Post ceremony at 8.00pm. It was an emotional experience. The busy traffic using the main road into Ypres goes through the gate, but was stopped at 7.30pm and about 1000 people gathered to take part in the ceremony.
Bloxham School Choir had been invited to be the choir for the evening under the Director of Music, Dan Jordan. Needless to say they were very impressive and an important part of the ceremony. I had the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of the Old Bloxhamists, and the School’s Head Girl, Saskia Hall, laid a wreath on behalf of the current pupils and staff.
It is an experience that I will never ever forget. Anyone considering this experience can just turn up and attend. It is one of those things one needs to do.
