Cherwell has been allocated a further 4,400 homes to build in addition to the 22,840 houses already set out in the 2015-31 Cherwell Local Plan.
On 7 November a meeting of Cherwell District Council’s executive noted the Oxfordshire Growth Board’s decision and approved the Partial Review of Local Plan Part 1 Options Paper for public consultation.  When this paper is published in the next week or two we’ll make sure you know what

Cllr Colin Clarke, Cherwell’s lead member for planning, said:    “Cherwell has a duty to co-operate with Oxford and other neighbouring districts to meet Oxford’s unmet housing need, and by conducting this Partial Review of the adopted Local Plan, we can retain control of where in the district these homes will go and how they are built.   The Options Paper which will soon be out for consultation does not set out proposed sites or policies. The final decision on which sites we develop and how many houses they will include will rest with councillors and is very much subject to change.”

The issue stems from the 2014 Oxfordshire Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA), which identified that Oxford City Council would be unable to meet Government housing targets due to boundary constraints and a lack of development sites.
