If you just want a summary of what the key points seem to be then read on…….
- Build only the minimum required by the CDC Local Plan
- No more major developments during the period of this plan
- Protect cultural heritage and avoid urbanisation.
- Respect existing dwellings in terms of privacy, density and sympathetic materials
- New homes to be sustainable from an energy and water perspective in line with Code for Sustainable Homes.
- New homes to meet lifetime homes standards to adapt to needs of changing age groups.
- Onsite parking for at least 2 cars for all family homes.
- Residents are highly car dependent with 66% having 2 or more vehicles and only 2% having none.
- The nature of the roads and pavements and size and quantity of traffic militate against low-carbon forms of travel (walking and cycling.) Cycling is extremely uncommon.
- Proper attention should be paid to siting new developments to minimise extra traffic.

- There are high levels of problems with all utilities except gas. Electricity supply problems are the most common but internet and mobile connectivity are the two people would most like improved.
- Amongst the businesses people would most commonly like are: cafes, pubs, restaurants, a hardware shop , fresh food and bakery shops, and a garden centre.
- The outdoor recreation areas that receive most use are the play areas at the Rec and the Jubilee.
- The indoor recreation areas that receive most use are the ex-Servicemen’s Hall and the Dewey Centre / swimming pool.
- People favoured expenditure on whole village facilities rather than LEAPs.
- A minority (22%) think Bloxham could support a large community Hall in addition to existing and planned provision.
- Over 90% of Bloxham households are owner-occupied many (53%) with no mortgage.
- The majority (around 60%) of dwellings are detached and almost 57% have 4 bedrooms or more.
- The most numerous age range is 45 – 65 years
- Around 52% of the population are working 28% are retired 16% are students.
- The village has a good mix in terms of the length of time living in the village.
- Although there are properties valued at under £200K the most common price range is £3oo-400K.
- Incomes are generally high by local standards.
- Around a quarter of residents say they are contemplating moving within the next few years: about half within Bloxham and half outside of it.
- Potential movers had firm criteria including: parking, privacy, a garden and not high density.
- Around a quarter of households had somebody leave in the last few years. Around half left for employment and a third for education. The remainer left because they couldn’t find a suitable or affordable house in the village.
- The types of housing people thought the village required was very mixed. The biggest single choice (34%) was bungalows.
- The type of housing tenure residents thought Bloxham needed were: owner-occupiers (43%) shared ownership (24%) and affordable rented (16%). (We have relatively little shared ownership housing.) Around 9% expressed some interest in self-build housing.
- 40 respondents (7%) said they knew 88 families that would like to move to Bloxham. This was mostly to be near family.
- Around 50 households filled in part 3 of the form for those who wanted a new home.
The type of housing being sought was bungalows, detached, semis, terraced in 5:2:2:1 ratio and most sought 2 or 3 bedroom properties.- The 1st choice tenure sought was overwhelmingly self-owned with a few shared equity and affordable rented.
- Around two-thirds of those seeking a new home currently own their own homes.
- Only half of the respondents filled in data as to what rent or mortgage they could afford and over half of these were in the top category. (Others possibly did not complete this as they already had properties and were downsizing so wouldn’t need a mortgage.)
- Ninety percent (45) of people seeking a new home already lived in Bloxham.
- Only three of the people seeking a new home were on the CDC housing register.
- Most resident comments were about development without the accompanying infrastructure.
- A few comments’ noted the alternative to development is decay!
