Royal British Legion

The resulting total from the Poppy Appeal is a very generous sum of £6,255.50 which is all the more appreciated at a time when many people are, understandably, keeping a tighter rein on their expenditure. It has been the practice in the past to notify each collector of the amount raised by them. Unfortunately the Bank where the counting takes place has been unable to provide this information and this is deeply regretted.
Our gratitude and heartfelt thanks go out to all who made this possible whether they be collectors or donors.
The role of the Royal British Legion is more important now than ever. An ageing population of WWII veterans needs help and support as do veterans of the many conflicts since 1945. In addition to this there are many young servicemen who are casualties of more recent action in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Legion cares for all of these.
There is a “myth” that the Legion is only for “old soldiers”! This is completely untrue! It embraces members of all three armed services whether serving or retired. Anybody can join the legion whether they have been in the services or not. If you have a family service connection or whether you just support what the Legion is doing you are welcome to join as a full member.
There is always a large and gratifying turnout on Remembrance Sunday and also at the War Memorial on the 11th. November. The only cause for concern is the dwindling number of those of us who parade with the Standard. There must be a prodigious number of ex servicemen in a village like Bloxham. Please join us. If you have still got that old cap badge, buy a beret, “bull up” the badge and wear it again!
Details of how to join will be found at the Post Office.
Hugh Hinde, Branch Chairman.
