We used to publish GCSE results when they came out in August.
We stopped doing this because the majority of schools no longer released their full results, preferring to select data that suited their marketing needs.
However, In January each year the Department for Education (DFE) releases the verified figures.

We all know maths and English are basic to  success in modern life and so perhaps the simplest measure to understand is the percentage of students achieving Grade 5 (the old Grade C) in both English and Maths.

The government encourages schools to ensure pupils follow a balanced curriculum and students deemed to have done so are said to have met the requirements of the English Baccalaureate. (E.B.) Basically this means they have to have taken:

• English language and literature
• maths
• the sciences
• geography or history
• a foreign language

Pupils may, and usually do, take other subjects beyond this “Baccalaureate collection.”

We mention this because one of the important measures the government uses to measure school performance is the Attainment 8 score
This is the ‘point score’ achieved by all it’s students on their best 8 GCSEs including the E.B. subjects listed above.
