Developments, Odds & Ends

Then & Now 8

What is now Bloxham Court was once a railway cutting.
In between being a  cutting and housing it was the Beauchamp Squash Club. (We don’t have a picture of that – can anyone email us one along with permission to use it?)

This is one of several parts of the village with pavements too narrow properly to accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Giving that the ageing population has not exactly been a secret (!) it’s a pity planners did not have the foresight to insist that the new houses along this busy stretch of the Barford Rd be built further back from  the old bridge with a view to enabling future widening of the pavement! They didn’t and so  (through no fault of the residents of these houses)  Milton Rd and Barford Rd residents with mobility issues are consequently condemned to  substandard access to key village  facilities.

We continue to live in hope planners will one day wake-up to the long-term costs of ignoring demographic change – but don’t hold your breath!
