Thursday Club Observations – Dec 2025

Well, well, it’s Thursday Lunch Club once again When we meet in the Church Hall down the lane.
We are greeted by Lynn with a welcoming smile -I wonder what she is hiding in her file?
Sshh, a signature is required, it’s what she requests, Maybe a birthday card for one of the guests?
Coffee or tea is served by Ronnie with a smile, In her pretty apron, yes, she certainly does it in style!
Daph follows on with a biscuit selection -Will it be a rich tea or even a chocolate confection?
Caroline is busy cooking us a delicious meal, We will have to wait until later for the big reveal.
What delight awaits us, our tummies rumble, Maybe sausages or gammon, followed by a fruit crumble?
Already seated is Pauline who is usually first in line, Soon joined by the other early birds, Bernard and Brian.A vacant seat in the corner awaits for Ron.
The boys are now here with the arrival of Gowan, David and John.
In comes Margaret and Marian “one” who looks a little deflated, Gerhild and Pat sit next to Marian “two” who is already seated.
Maybe more to Marian’s postal enigma still to be told….
This ongoing drama has still to unfold.
The men group together chewing over the news, Obviously airing their knowledgeable views.
It’s good to observe them setting their sights, Trying to put the world to rights.
Laughter has erupted from the ladies who are chattering -It’s so good to see them all nattering
Now we are here, let the fun begin Maybe a game of quoits, a puzzle, a bit of quizzin’!
We take part in a game to open our minds, It’s quiet with guests mulling over replies, With answers forthcoming of all kinds.
Then, Margaret answers with an element of surprise She speaks clearly, watch her sparkly eyes. With shouts from Ronnie & Brian, yes everyone tries.
A pre-lunch tipple is served by Daph & Ronnie, Be it a tonic water or even a glass of sherry,
Though not enough to make one merry!
At 12:30 we take our seats, All eager to sample one of Caroline’s lunch treats.
We tuck in, it’s so quiet, nobody speaks, Too busy eating to open their heaks!
Every week a delicious surprise awaits us,
When all plates are cleared without a fuss. With lunch over, Lynn asks “are there still stories to tell?”
Our love goes to absent friends who are unwell. Marian “one” still has her postal woes, Letters sent to the addressee nobody knows!
Another letter has arrived, let’s hear her news, We listen carefully, then give her our views.
“Shred it!” “Bin it!” we all say Let’s hope this ongoing saga goes away!
With story time over, it’s time for the raffle, Everyone’s a winner, without all the kerfuffle.
Then it’s home time for all, with only seven more days to wait, For the warm welcome the volunteers create. Thank you all for the warmth and friendship you bring. A big thank you to you all for everything.
Veronica Phillips (aka Ron)
