Developments, Odds & Ends

Weavers Fields development – Bloxham

Miller Homes have alerted us to their plans to build a devvelopment of 85 new homes in Bloxham called Weavers Fields.

The site is  between the Milton Road (south) and Barford Roads basically running from opposite Collins Drive alongside the Aldous Drive and new Bovis estates towards Bloxham Mill Business Park.

It is to be named “Weavers Fields” presumably because the business park was once a carpet weaving factory although it might also be somehow related to the weavers’ cottages in the conservation areas.

The press release includes the following, “Blessed with pretty lanes, Bloxham is a picture postcard rural English village, which is steeped in local history and shares the beauty and tranquility of nearby settlements.”    Bloxham certainly has the history and some  beautiful parts to the village but tranquility?  Bloxham’s a great place to live but try crossing  the A361 at many times of day and  tranquility isn’t the first word that springs to mind! We need to seek to preserve the important views, open spaces and traffic-free public footpaths that remain within and around the village in order to hang on to what tranquility is left.

The Miller Homes website indicates the development at Bloxham is due to launch this  Autumn by which we assume they mean that’s when the earthworks will start.
