Recently Sir Tony Baldry facilitated a meeting with Western Power and the Parish Council and Neighbourhood Development Plan Co-ordinator, seeking to raise awareness of the problems residents experienced with the present power network.
Western Power explained some of their recent efforts to boost resilience and they are confident the residents of Bloxham will experience fewer problems in the future. Here is what they had to say.

Western Power Distribution(WPD) serves 7.7 million customers in Midlands, South Wales and South West.  We are the electricity distribution network operator responsible for the supply to Bloxham and the surrounding area.

Bloxham area takes its main supply from Feckenham via a cross country dual circuit 66,000 Volt steel tower line with over 280 towers feeding into Bloxham main substation. WPD has recognised that Bloxham is a developing area and we have installed an additional transformer at this main substation site in 2014 at a cost of £1.5M.  This work has created additional capacity for future new load and also increases the security of the supply in the area.

Unfortunately, the area has had several short power interruptions in duration of about 10 seconds which have been mainly due to buzzards coming into contact with the main tower line between Feckenham and Bloxham.
In order to alleviate the problem we have started a programme of shrouding the main tower lines, in order to prevent further power interruption when birds land and take off.  Please see photograph below.
The other cause of short cuts is trees touching the line.  WPD recently flew this entire line by helicopter better to focus their routine pre-emptive tree cutting programme.
