Edward Caswell: “The archaeology of the Bloxham area and some interesting public finds”
Ed Caswell is the Finds Liaison Officer of the Oxfordshire Museums Service, identifying and recording small artefacts found by members of the public for the Portable Antiquities Scheme (managed by the British Museum and Museum Wales). Items -including brooches, arrowheads, coins etc (no ring pulls!) may be the result of metal detecting, gardening, walking the dog or other activities.
Those of archaeological interest are recorded on the PAS website which preserves information about these objects for future archaeologists and anyone wanting to know a little bit more about their area’s past.
Ed will bring some examples from the Bloxham area with their stories, and will be interested to hear about the audience’s personal experiences.
Everyone welcome, whether members or not. Refreshments provided (from 7.15pm). Admission: free for members (£13 annual sub); £5 visitor charge.
