History Club Talk – 20 Nov 2024

Bloxham Village History Club

Wednesday 20 November, 7.30pm
Jubilee Park Hall, Barley Close, Bloxham

Our short AGM (approx 20 mins) will be followed by a talk:

Keith Westcott: “Time Team, Broughton’s Roman Villa and a macabre conundrum”

Keith Westcott, metal detectorist and amateur archaeologist, packed out the hall with his previous visit to us in 2019, telling the story of how a Romano-British Villa with a footprint the size of Buckingham Palace was discovered near Broughton Castle.
Keith will bring the story up to date, covering what’s happened on the site over the last few years, including the “Time Team” applying the latest technology, techniques and approaches.
Further discoveries have enabled the overall scheme of the villa to be better understood and how it functioned as a working estate.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn more about a hugely significant site, right on our doorstep!
Refreshments provided (from 7.15pm)
Admission: free for members (£13 annual sub); £3 visitor
charge. Contact Ian Myson (ian_myson@hotmail.com) for further information.

All welcome.
