On August 19th Millers lodged an appeal against the CDC rejection of the Tadmarton Road site.
This has now wended its way to the Inspectors who have kicked off the process with which we are now increasingly familiar.
It may be hard to retain any faith in the inspector led appeal process but the situation is actually a bit different for the Miller homes development in three important ways.
- The Millers proposal was rejected by CDC at the end of an evening in which they approved a huge number of large developments. This means that the key ‘5 year housing land supply’ argument is on much more dubious ground for Millers than it was with Gladman and Frampton.
- The traffic situation outside the school is demonstrably chaotic and placement of a new estate immediately opposite is a clear health and safety issue.
- Repeated Flooding of the Tadmarton Rd is undeniable and the proposed site is effectively in a flood area that acts as a reservoir to attenuate water flow that would otherwise end up flooding the slade reserve and then, via the brook, both Brookside and the centre of the village.
So – despite the recent (anti-democratic) decisions by Pickles on the Gladman and Frampton sites it’s not time to roll-over and submit!
Indeed Millers have employed a P.R. advisory company that specialises in considering the ‘local psychology’ to get developments through and so the timing of the appeal to result in this information coming out to co-incide with this week’s announcements is probably no coincidence! They will expect us to feel ‘down’ so let’s show them we may be a bit down but we’re also the sort who get back up again. It’s not over until the fat lady sings!
