It has been a happy and busy start to the summer term at Bloxham CE Primary School, with children returning full of energy and enthusiasm. Classrooms and playgrounds alike have been filled with rich learning experiences, sparking curiosity, creativity and confidence in every year group.
In our Foundation Stage, there has been a real sense of wonder as children explore topics such as Animal Safari and Creep, Crawl and Wriggle. From meeting real-life animals-including snakes and a much-loved tortoise-to discovering habitats and pollination through Forest School, learning has been hands-on and memorable. Alongside this, pupils are building strong foundations in early maths and literacy, while gently growing in independence as they prepare for the transition into Year 1.
Key Stage 1 pupils have loved bringing history to life through their exploration of monarchs, with a memorable visit to Blenheim Palace as a real highlight. Experiences like this help children see their learning in the real world, deepening understanding and inspiring a love of learning that we hope will stay with them for years to come.
Creativity has flourished across Key Stage 2. In Year 3, pupils have delighted in nonsense poetry, creating imaginative limericks inspired by Edward Lear and Spike Milligan. This creativity has continued beyond English, with pupils working together in design technology to build moving mechanisms, and exploring botanical art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Year 4 pupils have recently returned from a wonderful three-day residential at Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre. Filled with adventure, laughter and teamwork, the children challenged themselves through climbing, canoeing and problem-solving, before ending their days gathered around the campfire. It was a pleasure to see them supporting one another and growing in confidence.
In Year 5, pupils have explored a wide range of subjects, from Ancient Greece to modern science. They have also benefited from our partnership with Bloxham Grove Academy, accessing specialist cooking facilities and expertise-an experience that brought learning to life. Many have also represented the school in sporting tournaments, showing great teamwork and encouragement.
Meanwhile, Year 6 pupils have shown maturity and determination as they
completed their SATs, and we are incredibly proud of their positive approach. As they move into their final weeks with us, they are beginning to look ahead to marking this important milestone-through leavers’ events, transition opportunities and time spent reflecting on their journey together.
At Bloxham, it is these everyday moments of learning, laughter and shared. experiences-that matter most. They create lasting memories while ensuring our children grow into kind, confident young people who achieve well and are ready to play their part in the world.
