When we were returning from a wedding in Bordeaux, we decided to spend a couple of nights in mid France before returning home to Bloxham. We stayed in one of Peter and Sally Yik’s gites – that does not conjure up in one’s mind their three delightful cottages which may be hired for self catering or as we did, stay B + B including a delicious dinner cooked to order!
Behind their home there is a large, enclosed, tranquil garden which is ideal for small children. The walled, heated pool has a large terrace, with Jacuzzi, shaded bar and barbecue area. They even have bicycles for hire. Their home set amongst vineyards and fields of sunflowers, is ideally situated for visits to Cognac (only 15 minutes away), Saintes, Angouleme, Royan and the airports of La Rochelle, Poitiers and hopefully Angouleme by April, as well as many charming French market towns, churches, gardens and historic sites.
We found it idyllic and will soon be going there again, if not just for cognac and other wines but to enjoy their brilliant hospitality. Website www.cognac-country.com PJPB
