Cherwell Choral Society Concert
‘Americana’ – music by Aaron Copland, Eric Whitacre and Randall Thompson
Saturday 8th July, Deddington Parish Church
Cherwell Choral Society‘s next concert will feature Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, which were composed between 1950 and 1952, originally for soloist and piano, and later arranged for chorus and piano. They include well known songs including The Boatmen’s Dance and Simple Gifts, an old Shaker song.
The programme will also include Frostiana by Randall Thompson (which is a setting of some of Robert Frost’s poems), and two pieces by Eric Whitacre: Water Night, and Animal Crackers, which are a fun selection of poems by Ogden Nash set to music by Whitacre.
The choir will be led as usual by their musical director Dr Paul Hedley, and will be accompanied on the piano by Cecily Lock. Cecily is an Oxford-based pianist who studied in Oxford and Amsterdam, and has performed in a variety of settings including concerts at the Holywell Music Room, the Concertgebouw and the Chipping Campden Music Festival.
Date: Sat 8th July, 7.30pm, at Deddington Parish Church.
Tickets are £15 (children under 16 free), and are available from Hamptons, Deddington, online from www.cherwellchoral.org or call 01295 367441.
New members are always welcome to join the choir – we rehearse on a Tuesday evening at Longford Park Community Centre. For more information, please see our website or email admin@cherwellchoral.org.
