Cherwell Choral Bach: Christmas Oratorio
Saturday 7th December 2024, 7.30pm, Deddington Church
Come and join us for this performance of Bach’s beautiful Christmas Oratorio, which will take place in Deddington Church this December.
Written in 1734, this popular Christmas work is one of the choral masterpieces of the Baroque era, recounting the timeless story of the birth of Jesus, and it remains a well-loved centrepiece for the Christmas season to this day. Bach cleverly used music he had already composed, taking the majority of the choruses and arias from earlier secular works and giving them new words.
The Christmas Oratorio is in six parts, each of them being intended for performance on one of the major feast days of the Christmas period. The choir will be performing the first 3 parts: the first part (for Christmas Day) relates the birth of Jesus, the second and third parts (for December 26 and 27) feature the annunciation, and the adoration of the shepherds.
This performance of the Christmas Oratorio will be sung in English. The choir will be accompanied by members of the Adderbury Ensemble, under the baton of their musical director, Dr Paul Hedley.
Date: Sat 7th Dec, 7.30pm, at Deddington Church.
Tickets are £18 (children under 16 free), and are available from Hamptons, Deddington, online at www.cherwellchoral.org, or call 01295 367441. Tickets will also be available on the door.

New members are always welcome to join the choir – we rehearse on a Tuesday evening at Longford Park Community Centre. For more information, please see our website or email admin@cherwellchoral.org.
