Hobbies Galore – Golf

Last month we started a series of articles on the many and varied hobbies of our readers. We are sure there are many of you, adults or children, with interesting hobbies and we would love to hear about them. Golf is a very healthy hobby or as it really should be called, sport. But for the purposes of a piece for the Broadsheet I will call it a hobby. It has been encouraging to read a recent report that it is very good for one as one walks around four and a half miles and gets plenty of fresh air. The other benefit of course is the meeting with other golfers and, particularly for pensioners, it provides lots of good fellowship.

Golf is often described as a good walk spoiled. I think that this is the view of non-golfers but I don’t think many golfers would agree unless they had had a very bad round. Most golfers enjoy the competitive edge that is usually involved but equally playing friendly games with others can be most enjoyable but I doubt that even then there is not a competitive streak somewhere.

Golf can be a very frustrating pastime as the margins for error when striking a small white ball are very small. But the pleasure of playing a good shot far out
