We are excited to welcome this band to Bloxham for the first time. All proceeds going to St. Mary’s Church.
Early Jug Bands were typically made up of African/American musicians playing a mixture of Blues, Ragtime, Jazz and Folk music. Using various items such as Washboard, Comb and Tissue Paper and Stove Pipe, the Jug element being a Demi John shaped vessel which was blown into, producing a variety of sounds. These items were augmented by Guitars, Banjos, Trumpets and Saxophones. The groups were formed in the Southern States of America in the early 1920’s with the first known recording being made in 1923.
The Jake Leg Jug Band are from Stoke on Trent and bring the authentic sounds of the 1920’s and 30’s Jazz, Blues, Gospel and Ragtime. Vocals are accompanied by Double Bass, Guitar, Banjo, Trumpet, Clarinet, Saxophone and Jug. The Band comes highly recommended by one of the other Bands who play regularly at the Hall.
