How fortunate we are in Bloxham to have such marvellous events organised by The Friends of St. Mary’s.
On Friday 8th of February over 200 people were enthralled by an organ recital in St. Mary’s church by the world renowned organist Carlo Curley. He played a wonderfully varied programme from Baroque to modern composers. Not only was his playing brilliant but his performance was notable for the warmth and wit of his larger than life personality. Interspersed with his playing he talked about the individual pieces in an interesting and erudite manner which greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the performance. The audience had been informed that he would interact with us all and he certainly did! He greeted people as they arrived, signed programmes, welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming. In the interval CD’s and Tapes of his music were sold and he chatted to the purchasers, autographed the CD’s and Tapes and he repeated this at the end of the concert. When he finished playing, and was obviously pleased with the volume of the applause, he said that he was delighted that the proceeds would be going towards the restoration of the beautiful stained glass windows which he had photographed earlier in the day.
To conclude, it was quite clear that the audience had enjoyed every minute of the evening (including the wine and refreshments in the interval) and realised how lucky they were to have such a magnificent performer in our church.
